Opened in November 2019, our Sullivan County Heritage Tourism Information Center is a post-Civil War era structure often referred to by local residents at "The Old Jail". This newly restored facility is used to promote and showcase the rich cultural heritage of Sullivan County, Tennessee. Beginning in 2006, long before restoration work began on this beautiful old building, it has served as the starting point for Appalachian GhostWalks' "Haunted Historic Blountville GhostWalk" for many years now. Lantern-led tours of Blountville depart nightly by request year-round. Advance reservations are required so call as soon as you know your travel dates to book your tour.
The Heritage Tourism Information Center’s mission is (1) To showcase the attractions of Historic Sullivan; (2) To serve as a starting point for walking tour of Blountville; (3) To highlight the Civil War Battle of Blountville. The center’s first exhibit is a Civil War display which has been installed on the ground floor. Plans are underway for two of the tourism center’s room to be dedicated to Civil War exhibits and exhibits on local and regional history. Angela Crane serves as the Marketing Associate for the Department of Archives and Tourism.
The center will be open Wednesday through Friday of each week, with hours and days open set to expand in the near future. Hours for the Tourism Center will be Wednesday 10 AM to 4:30 PM; Thursday, 9 AM to 4:30 PM, and Friday, 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Hours and days open are set to expand in the near future.
