On July 7, 1929, the Erwin Unicoi County Public Library opened and registered its first book. The library continued to serve the people of the Town and County through the 1930s and 1940s. In 1959, the Library Service Act disbursed federal funding for the library. A Board was appointed by the County Court, and it became the Unicoi County Public Library - a component of the Watauga Regional Library System under the Tennessee State Library and Archives. In 1997, the library moved into a renovated and very haunted Clinchfield Railroad Depot.

Constructed in 1925, the Depot was a gift from the Colonel J.F. Toney family. This beautiful, historic depot has since been the home of Unicoi County Public Library as well as the departure point for Appalachian GhostWalks "Haunted Historic Erwin GhostWalk" since September of 2005. Discover the history and mysteries surrounding this beauitful building built during Clinchfield Railroad's 1925 Erwin re-construction program as you participate in our nightly, lantern-led tour of the town.

A Few Reviews From Past Vacationing Guests

Haunted Appalachian Caverns Ghostwalk - The walk through the caverns was amazing. The amount of time alone was well worth the taking the tour. This is not your typical half hour walk through a cave and then you leave. We spent several hours going through the cave and the historical knowledge we were exposed to was top notch as well as the "ghostly" experiences. I would recommend this tour for anyone who enjoys caves. - Shane M.

The best ghost walk - I have been on several of the ghost walks with Appalachian GhostWalks. I have been to the ETSU tour, Jonesborough, Greenville tour, and the Abingdon tour several times. They know the history of the places and their research is right on the spot. Every time I go I learn something new that I didn't before. They change the tours a little each time so it's not the same. I had both Allen and Michael as tour guides and they are both awesome each one has their own style to it. I would really recommend them as a fun activity to do with just yourself or get the whole family together. Get a bunch of friends together to do something different around this area instead of the same ole boring stuff. You will definitely enjoy it and its worth the money too. - TripAdvsior - sej565
