 The Tipton-Haynes House near Johnson City Tennessee, formerly known as Green Meadows, Hainesville, and Johnson's Depot | Enjoy a tour of the Tipton-Haynes historic home and associated structures with a direct descendant of Col John Tipton who built the main house and acquired the property directly from the Cherokee in the late 1700s. Learn about life as the Tipton and Haynes Families knew it as we take you on a journey back to an earlier and simpler time in our history. Perhaps, you will be one of those who have witnessed one of the many ghosts dressed in early period clothing who still traverse the property... |
While there yet remains much to be discovered concerning this location of spirit activity, today - when one walks the grounds of this very historic site on dark or moonlit nights, the shadows seem to reach for you. The sudden rustle of leaves from the properties very old historic trees makes your heart jump! Your heart beats faster and faster and you think it's your imagination; but, is it really? Some believe that it is simply the ghosts of this very old and historic site, still watching over it to preserve its integrity - just as they doubtless once did in life, even now... in the hereafter...
This tour is presented in the mid afternoon on any day throughout the year and can be taken as a stand alone tour, or as part of a day and night tour package combining one of our many lantern-lit tours throughout the region. It departs from the main lobby of Tipton-Haynes Historic Site as scheduled. From Highway US-441 take Highway 66 North for 8.47 miles; Merge onto Interstate I-40 East for 13.77 miles; Merge onto Interstate I-81 North toward the left toward Bristol, TN; Take Exit 57A onto Interstate I-26 East toward Johnson City for 15.5 miles; Take the Highway US-321, or Highway TN-67 Exit 32 toward Elizabethton for 0.12 miles; Turn left at the bottom of the ramp toward East Tennessee State University and go for only 0.11 miles; Turn left onto South Roan Street and go for 0.98 miles ending at Tipton-Haynes Historic Site on your right at 2620 South Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601; Total Estimated Time: 1 hour, 43 minutes; Total Distance: 100.72 miles...
