We currently have ten different tours from which to choose, each one just one piece of a larger puzzle containing elaborating on the history and heritage of our region. The cost for groups of four, or more people is just $17 per person including tax, but we will also operate for smaller groups. Call (423) 743-WALK (9255) for rates couples and groups of three. Children 11 and under, ETSU students with ID and Senior Citizens 65 years and over receive $2 off on select tours. Sorry, no refunds. Call for special rates on large groups of 16, or more. Each GhostWalk, or Ghost Tour Package, can be arranged to fit your busy schedule whether you are native to the area, or just traveling through, but advance reservations are required. The "Haunted Historic Erwin GhostWalk" is presented in Cooperation with the Unicoi County Historical Society, the Heritage Museum, and the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce, this tour is sure to educate, awe, and amaze you! Join us as we stroll down one of Tennessee's most historic Main Streets while visiting its haunted landmarks! Learn about the Cherokee Indian occupation of the Valley Beautiful prior to the arrival of the first white settlers to East Tennessee, as well as the little known Civil War battle of "Red Banks" fought on the banks of Unicoi County's Nolichucy River...

In addition, Unicoi County is full of folklore and legend! Never before has it all been pulled together in a way that presents to our tour participants a new picture of where we've come from and where we've been. Come and learn of the lives of those who have passed on, their hardships in life, and who might be still with us today, haunting the very historic structures along our tour route...

Haunted Historic Jonesborough GhostWalk
Why is Jonesborough one of America's most haunted towns? Does Andrew Jackson still walk the historic streets of Jonesborough? Hear about a former President's encounter with the ghost of Kate Bell, also known as the infamous Bell Witch of Adams, Tennessee! What mysteries lie near the train tracks of Tennessee's oldest town?

This is our tour of Tennessee's oldest town established in 1779. Here, our guests can get a "feel" for the charm and mystery surrounding the history and lore associated with both recent as well as past extraordinary and mysterious encounters with the unexplained. While trodding some of the most historic streets in the entire State, your guide will amaze you with a titilating recount of little known ghostly facts as you embark upon your afternoon and evening adventure. Be sure to visit the local shop owners to browse fine antiques and sample some of the wonderful varieties of food...

Haunted Historic Rogersville GhostWalk
Learn about the secret passage ways of the one of Rogersville's most historic structures, the Kenner House. What spirits haunt the Mountain Star Mall? Do ghostly visitors still stay the night at the Hale Springs Inn? What famous figures are buried in one of Rogersville's most historic cemeteries?

There are interesting observations made by those attending this tour with regard to the ongoing activity in many of this tours historic structures. Many people who have taken this tour have told us that they believe it to be one of the spookiest tours! The "Hale Springs Inn" (pictured left) is one of the oldest, continually operating inns in the State. Rogersville is also host to the oldest Courthouse in the State and the site of Tennessee's first Post Office with East Tennessee being America's "First Western Frontier"!!! Learn about the unexpected happenings during our recent investigations of the Dickson-Williams Mansion. How many prisoners still linger inside Tennessee's oldest jail? Learn about the spirits who haunt a former United States President's home. Will you be touched by the spirits haunting the Gen Morgan Inn?

During this tour you and your friends will be able to tour the interior of two different historic structures, visit one of the areas most historic graveyards. You'll learn about the tragic history of one of Tennessee's most influential political figures from the past. You'll also learn about one of our areas oldest taverns and be amazed by the tragic Civil War entanglements of the town...

Strange things happened during our recent investigations of the historic "Dickson-Williams Mansion" (pictured left), things that have never happened on any previous study of historic structures in our region. The activity in this structure is ongoing and has been witnessed on many of our evening tours. Haunted Historic Blountville GhostWalk
Which families still have representatives haunting several of historic Blountville's downtown structures? What early frontier mysteries lie burried, or hidden throughout the town? What famous historical figure inacted one of the greatest jail breaks of the early 20th century? Who still takes care of the historic Snow House located near the Sullivan County Court House?

Learn about the historic and tragic Civil War "Battle of Blountville" departing from the old Sheriff's House, also called the "Old Jail". Soon visitors will be able to tour the interior of the newly restored "Deery Inn" (pictured left) before engaging in this lantern-led tour of the town. The Deery is scheduled to open to the public for daytime tours around Christmas later this year. Historic Abingdon Virginia GhostWalk
Who's are the red eyes seen late at nights in the Abingdon Tavern? Does Bob Porterfield still "manage" the Barter Theater from beyond? Who is the musician presenting the mysterious violin performances inside the Martha Washington Inn?

Once again, you're invited to travel back through time and visit the people of the past. Walk down Main Street in old Abingdon, Virginia established in 1778, originally named Wolf Hill by Daniel Boone in the year of 1760. Your guide will enlighten you on the life and times of those long gone who appear to be holding on to the present by virtue of their interactions and apparitions apparent to local patrons and business owners alike...

While visiting this historic locale, be sure to take advantage of fine dining from The Tavern Restaurant, established in 1779, which is one of the oldest buildings in the Southeastern United States still being utilized and open to the public for business. You just might have an encounter with "The Lady of the Tavern", as we like to call her, who you'll hear more about during the tour...

After the GhostWalk, take a tour of The Martha Washington Inn upon learning about the Inn's history as well as the ghostly happenings that have occurred there over the years...

In addition, we highly recommend that you make an attempt to time your visit so that you can catch one of the wonderful live plays at the prestigious Barter Theatre, the longest running professional resident theatre in America. The Barter's interior auditorium, in addition to other parts of the building, serve as a home for many mysterious happenings which we will again share with you during the GhostWalk. You just may run into Mr. Porterfield yourself while you're there, especially if it happens to be opening night!

Johnson City's Little Chicago GhostWalk
Learn about the activities of one of the most famous and notorious gansters of the early 1900s on Appalachian GhostWalks' newest tour for 2007 - the Little Chicago Ghost Tour, also known as the "Haunted Historic Johnson City GhostWalk". The Little Chicago GhostWalk, elaborating on Johnson City's Little Chicago Ghosts, begins June 1st, 2007 where the ghost of Al Capone, as well as that of his associates, of Historic Downtown Johnson City may await you and your family, or tour group.

Go back in time and learn about the mobs and gansters of the 1920's. Who knows, lurking around the next corner on our spine tingling Johnson City Ghost Tour, you may spy one of the ghosts of gansters who use to create their own rules during the time of prohobition in Johnson City's early history. Enjoy a tour of the Tipton-Haynes historic home and associated structures with a direct decendant of Col John Tipton who built the main house in the late 1700s. This tour is presented both day and night and is led by a direct, blood descendant of Col. John Tipton who built the main house on this State Historic Site. In order to create the proper "tone" for this hauntingly, spine-tingling tour, Appalachian GhostWalks begins this GhostWalk at the ETSU clocktower. Join us for a walking tour of the campus of East Tennessee State University. Your guide will lead you on a journey into the history and mysteries of one of Tennessee's oldest college's where everyone may share the legends, stories and unusual happenings of the University's past and present on this 'ghostly' tour. Does the first president of the University still roam the campus and halls? This and several other stories will put you in a state of wonder and you'll find out about them all on this thrilling GhostWalk!!!

It's just another exciting way to learn about the area's past and have fun with a chance at your very own experience with the unexplained. In addition, there are dozens of nearby restaurants where the group can grab a bite to eat after the tour and discuss personal ghostly encounters...

Naturally, there is no charge for ETSU faculty, or students with a valid ID to participate in the on campus tours, but there is a minimum of 5 paid persons to operate the tour. If you're a student who would like to schedule a campus tour for your group grab some of your friends and family to come along. They will love the experience!!!

Frequently Ask Questions and General Information

  • Each tour requires reservations with no minimum to operate.
  • Tours are limited to a maximum number of twenty-five people for the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
  • Most of our ghostwalks are handicapped accessible. As with any of our tours, please call to make prior arrangements and reservations for guests with special needs.
  • Appalachian GhostWalks operates tours year-round regardless of the weather - rain, or shine, so be sure to bring your umbrella and arrive on time as the tour will depart promptly as scheduled when reserved.
  • Average length of our GhostWalks are 2-3 hours in duration depending on the tour. Our tour guides are English speaking only.
  • The cost for groups of four, or more people is just $17 per person plus tax, but we will also operate for smaller groups.   • There is much to see and to hear about on all of our exciting tours so don't forget your camera as well as some comfortable walking shoes.
  • For the comfort and enjoyment of all participants on the tour, smoking is allowed at only designated times and locations specified by the tour guide.
  • Absolutely no alcohol or drugs are permitted on our tours. If anyone is deemed to be intoxicated or otherwise under the influence of drugs or alcohol by the tour guide, that person, or those persons will be removed from the tour with no refunds.
  • Appalachian GhostWalks reserves the right to remove anyone from our tours who may pose a hazard to our other guests or to private property owners.
  • Stay with the tour group at all times. Because tours are given at twilight and after dark, we want to keep you as safe as possible. Do not enter, or trespass on property the tour has not been invited to take you onto, or into. We respect the people and the property of the people of the towns and buildings we tour.
  • By utilizing electronic equipment, The ARC ~ Alternate Realities Center investigations team were able to obtain scientific evidence to support claims of hauntings at each historic site. The photographs, electronic voice phenomena (EVPs), and infrared video recorded during our initial investigations of the interior and exterior of the properties along each tour route are available for purchase on DVD from your tour guide when attending any of our walking tours, or from The Appalachian GhostWalks' Ghost Hunter Store. Again, ten percent of profit from our tours as well as the sale of our DVDs and T-shirts go to support Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
  • Ghost Hunting 101 ~ In a partnership with Ghost Chasers International, The ARC will teaches a certification for those who wish to obtain their field certification in ghost investigations. Space is limited and classes tend to fill up quickly so register early if you would like to attend.
